The official X account of Large Blue introduced on September 29, 2024 that the anime will return for a second season six years after season 1 aired in 2018.
Season 2 continues the story after Iori completes a diving course in Okinawa. The plot begins when Iori returns residence and receives a letter from his youthful sister, Shiori.
Alongside the announcement, a teaser picture of the characters celebrating underneath the summer season sky has been launched.
Zero-G, the studio behind season 1, returns for season 2, this time with Liber.
Shinji Takamatsu will reprise his roles as director, screenwriter and sound director, with Hideoki Kusama serving as character designer and lead animation director.
Main forged members together with Yuma Uchida as Iori, Ryohei Kimura as Kohei Imamura, Hiroki Yasumoto as Shinji Tokita, Katsuyuki Konishi as Ryujiro Kotobuki, Chika Anzai as Chisa Kotegawa, Maaya Uchida as Nanaka Kotegawa, Takuya Eguchi as Hajime Nojima and Kana Asumi as Aina Yoshiwara will return too.
Creator Kenji Inoue expressed his pleasure for the sequel, saying: “I am actually blissful that even after such a protracted time period, persons are nonetheless looking forward to a sequel. I ponder if diving has generated a lot curiosity amongst followers! In any case, this manga was initially created for the aim of selling the water sport of diving!”.
Manga illustrator Kimitake Yoshioka shared an illustration in honor of the announcement.
The primary season of Large Blue aired from July 14 to September 29, 2018. The sequence lasted 12 episodes.
A live-action movie was launched on August 7, 2020. This was directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa.
